General Information
Chrono Trigger
Age Name: Apocalypse
Music: Lavos's Theme (Complete)
1999 A.D. marks the apocalypse of Chrono Trigger, when Lavos erupts and rains destruction upon the entire world. His spires cleanse the planet in fire, wiping the crust of its life and effectively dismantling human civilization. All that remained was a bleak atmosphere and ruined remains of cities, housing a minimal number of humans who depended on the Enertron to survive.
The overworld itself is not accessible by the party through normal means (though it can be done through a savestate in Downloads, and neither is it finished within the game itself; only one quadrant is complete. Additionally, it is not compatible with the shape of the continents in 2300 A.D., reducing the ability of fans to guess where the old cities of Truce and Porre might lie on that map.
The world in 1999, however, can be seen if Lavos is lost to - the resulting cutscene eventually shows the planet as it would be seen from space (though it doesn't show the world up close), and the landmasses look like they do in 1000. Since the landmasses in 2300 are much different from the ones in 1000, Lavos's eruption may have caused rapid continental drift.
